It’s often the case that new features get added haphazardly, without proper testing or documentation only for users to have the system crash on them at the most inopportune moment. Putting a proper feature release process in place can minimize these issues.
Before work even begins on a new feature, you want to make sure everybody’s on board with it, thus you need approval.
The next step is prototyping and testing, it is often the case that as a new feature is implemented and tested it undergoes various changes.
Once you have a working prototype it’s time to document it, after which it’s ready for release.
Last but not least, you need to announce the feature, preferably to customers who asked for it. Or who might see the greatest benefit from using it.
